According to the Center for Disease Control, the most dangerous time of the year for drug and alcohol-related deaths are December, January and March.

Hamlet Smith, the psychologist at Life Strategies Counseling, said drug abuse is always something to keep an eye out for.

“I would say to avoid using drugs its plan, plan, plan.” Smith said. “Get an accountability person. Have a table set on your calendar to be around people who are not addicted to drugs. Who are not struggling with that everyday.”

Smith added the holidays can bring back a lot of bad memories for people which tends to lead to higher drug use.
