What Does UnitedHealthcare over for drugs and alcohol rehab addiction treatment?
Alcohol and drug addiction not only affects the victim but everyone else around them. Reports about alcoholics and drug addicts causing harm to their loved ones. It’s never too late to treat addiction and health care insurance is making it so that help is never out of reach.
UnitedHealthcare has operated since 1977. Their commitment is to improve the health care system. They are a part of the UnitedHealth Group, one of the largest health carriers in the US. They have coverage for substance abuse for both inpatient and outpatient programs.
Program Coverage:What Is Included?
UnitedHealthcare covers the following therapy and treatments for substance abuse:
Detoxification: UnitedHealthcare can cover Inpatient detox services. But this is only during the acute stages of withdrawals. Medication and treatment for complications that happen during the detox process are also covered. After the treatment, the patient can opt for outpatient treatment. Outpatient care is considered when the condition doesn’t need constant monitoring.
Rehabilitation: UnitedHealthcare can cover inpatient psychiatric care. Their coverage is for up to 190 days in total per member. In emergency cases when patients need to be taken to an acute care hospitals it is still covered. Emergency cases don’t count to the days for inpatient care. Outpatient care is covered and doesn’t have a limit.
Coverage Exceptions
Despite being part of rehabilitation programs, UnitedHealthCare does not cover the following occurrences:
Acute Inpatient Detoxification: This is when a patient visits for detox. This removes the patient from the source of alcohol or substance. It also prevents future access.
Misc. Costs During Detox or Rehab: Expenses such as transportation, meals, and recreational activities. This is common for outpatient care.
Methadone Maintenance Costs: Methadone is used as a treatment for opioid abuse such as heroin. The medication is administered in a long term process and is unfortunately not part of their coverage.
Cost Coverage
The amount they will cover will vary depending on the plan. UnitedHealthCare’s lowest premium plan is the “Short Term Medical Value.” This does not cover any inpatient expenses for substance abuse.
For outpatient coverage, individual doctor visits can be up to $50 per visit. For “Short Term Coverage,” there’s a limit of $3000 per person.
Some people find inpatient rehabilitation treatments uncomfortable. Some have responsibilities that get in the way of their program.
UnitedHealthcare covers Luxury Centers that offer amenities to make their experience more comfortable. Amenities may include swimming pools, gym equipment, and gourmet meals. For those with work commitments, there are executive treatment centers. These centers will allow patients stay in touch for business during the program.
Health insurance has made health care be within reach of the average person. It’s best to take full advantage of it. Care for the people you love and care for yourself. If you know someone with addiction and insurance, call their doctors and the insurance company. Place them on the road to recovery and continue to support them. In the end, it will be better for everyone.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_btn title=”Call Now To Check Your Benefits” color=”green” i_icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-volume-control-phone” add_icon=”true” link=”url:tel%3A%2B18553391112|title:Check%20Your%20Benefits|target:%20_blank|”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
